Victorian Shadows: Cape May Haunts

DAY 1

You think of Cape May as a delightful and scenic beach getaway, but did you know that this seaside town has a storied past filled with spirits, haunted happenings and unexplained phenomena? Here is your chance to explore and experience Cape May in a different way. During your journey to Cape May, you will make a short fast-food breakfast stop at your expense along the way. Upon arrival, you will have free time for lunch on your own and your expense at the charming Washington Street Mall featuring an array of one-of-a-kind boutiques and shops, as well as a pleasing mix of dining options. Late afternoon, you will check in at the Marquis de Lafayette (609-884-3500) for an overnight stay. Guest rooms feature a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and hair dryer. After a brief time to freshen up, you begin your Voices from Beyond tour with a walk-through of Dr. Emlen Physick's home where they will share with you a number of voices recorded in the home that have no scientific explanation. Throughout the tour, you will learn about the equipment and tools used over the years in paranormal research. What was that shadow? Was it the undead of Cape May's past wandering their beloved haunts? You might scoff, you may shudder, but rest assured, on board a trolley with your guide you will begin to wonder what is beyond when you hear the tales of hauntings unearthed in Cape May by a renowned psychic medium. Next, dinner is included at a local restaurant. After dinner, you will set out on the Spirit and Oddities Trolley Tour. While on the trolley, explore some of the strange beliefs, superstitions, oddities, fads, curiosities, and mysteries from the end of the 19th century - the Victorian era. Hear stories from Cape May's history that are bizarre, unexplained or just downright weird. Following your tour, you return to the hotel to turn in for the night.

DAY 2

Begin your day with breakfast included at the hotel before you check-out and depart for Historic Cold Spring Village to take a step back in time and experience what life was like during the 1800s in this open-air living history museum. Stroll through restored, preserved buildings located on this 30-acre site, walk amid the historically clothed interpreters as they go about daily life demonstrating blacksmithing, printing, woodworking, basket weaving, book binding and more. Afterwards, you board the motorcoach and depart for Historic Smithville for free time to explore the quaint town of over 60 specialty shoppes and delightful eateries. Feel the warm embrace of small-town hospitality as you stroll along cobblestone walkways and over foot bridges as you discover a village that seems frozen in time. After your time for self-exploration and lunch on your own and at your expense, you depart for home.
