Summer At The Trapp Family Lodge

DAY 1

Travel with the Pack to the Von Trapp Lodge & Resort in Stowe, Vermont for the perfect summer retreat from the heat to enjoy the stunning beauty of the mountain landscape coupled with magnificent Austrian-inspired architecture, old world charm and impeccable service. During your travels to Stowe, you will make an appropriate amount of meal and rest stops at your own expense. Upon arrival, you check in for a three-night stay at Von Trapp Lodge (800-826-7000). Lodge amenities include an indoor pool and sauna, fitness center, on-site restaurant and cocktail lounge, seasonal activities (some may be at an additional cost) and complimentary wireless internet access throughout the property. A hearty three-course dinner is included this evening with the remainder of the night to enjoy the lodge amenities.

DAY 2

Begin your day with a hearty country breakfast buffet to fuel up for your 1-hour garden tour. Stroll through the manicured Von Trapp flower and vegetable gardens with your guide who will point out many varieties of annual and perennial flowers as well as current vegetables, trees and shrubs in the newly renovated vegetable and strolling gardens and grounds. Next, you board the motorcoach with your local guide and travel to Montpelier for a self-guided visit of the Vermont State House. One of the oldest and most well-preserved of our nation's state capitols, its House and Senate chambers are the oldest active legislative halls in the U.S. that have preserved their original interiors. The State House is an architectural gem and a remarkable piece of living history. During your visit, you can grab lunch on your own and at your expense in the State House Café. Next, you're off to Morse Maple Farm where you learn about the process of tree-to-table maple sugaring as you tour the sugar house. Morse Farm boasts 200 years and eight generations of providing that delicious syrup we like to add to our meals. View multimedia displays in a real woodshed theatre, stroll along the natural trail leading to the trees where it all begins, delight in samples of the syrup, jams and jellies, and of course visit the gift shop to purchase some Vermont goodies and craft items to share with family and friends. Your final stop of the tour is at the Cabot Cheese Annex. Here, you will have time to browse the fantastic selection of Cabot products, sample their award-winning cheeses, and purchase many other Vermont specialty foods. Additionally, take time to visit their neighboring shops to buy some Lake Champlain Chocolates, browse the Danforth Pewter store or stop by the Smugglers' Notch Distillery tasting room. You then return to the Trapp Lodge to enjoy their casual Afternoon Tea with fellow passengers and lodge guests. Dinner this evening is included in the Main Dining Room with the remainder of the night to relax and unwind.

DAY 3

Wake to a country breakfast buffet included at the lodge followed by a fascinating Trapp History Talk including an overview of the von Trapp family history (actual vs. movie version), the property's history, and their early years in America, concluding with a viewing of the documentary film "The Real Maria." You'll have time to shop in the Austrian Gift Shop, with an opportunity to have a souvenir signed by a Trapp Family member. This afternoon, enjoy free time in Stowe Village for lunch on your own and at your expense, as well as browse the charming shops and see the area's "most photographed" church steeple. Next, you visit Cold Hollow Cider for a self-guided tour of the working cider mill to learn about Vermont's relationship with apples, bees, and maple trees. Enjoy a cider donut and hot cider included before you return to the lodge for their casual Afternoon Tea with fellow passengers and lodge guests. Your evening begins with the Von Trapp Brewery Tour, an hour-long tour of their state-of-the-art 36,000 sq. ft. facility, complete with a beer sampling. For two decades Johannes von Trapp dreamed of building an Austrian style brewery to brew an American version of the beers he enjoyed in Austria. Now you get to sample the result. Following the tour, you have dinner included at the "Bierhall" overlooking the brewery. You then return to the lodge to turn in for the night.

DAY 4

Enjoy a final country breakfast buffet included at the lodge this morning. Afterwards, you will pack up and depart for home carrying many fond memories of your summertime stay and Austrian-inspired getaway at the Trapp Family Lodge. Appropriate meal and rest stops will be made on your way home.
