DAY 1
Upon arrival in Washington, D.C., our first stop is the Museum of the Bible for a self-guided visit.
Prepare to be awe-struck by one of the world's most technologically advanced museums. You will be welcomed by the stunning grand hall featuring monumental Jerusalem stone columns and a ceiling dominated by a 40-foot-high, 140-foot-long LED display. The museum showcases rare artifacts spanning 4,000 years of history, offering visitors an immersive and personalized experience with the Bible and its ongoing impact on the world.
Explore multiple floors of enlightening and engaging permanent and short-term exhibits that provide perspective on the Bible's influence over time on cultures, civilizations, and daily life.
Special Exhibit: The Dead Sea Scrolls
While at the museum, you will have the opportunity to see the special traveling exhibition: The Dead Sea Scrolls. The oldest copies of the Bible are featured in this new exhibition, created by the Israel Antiquities Authority.
Considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in history, these fragments-some up to 2,200 years old-were accidentally found by Bedouin shepherds in 1947. Rarely leaving Israel, they offer an unparalleled glimpse into the Second Temple period, the time when the Hebrew Bible was being finalized and Christianity was emerging. This exhibition will feature three rotations of scrolls, including a fragment showcasing the creation account in Genesis 1.
Hundreds of priceless artifacts will accompany the scrolls, including the Magdala Stone and the so-called "Jesus Boat" (a first-century fishing vessel). Together, they transport guests back to the land of Israel during this era.
Lunch is on your own and at your expense while at the museum.
Next, we board the motorcoach and depart for the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, commonly known as the Washington National Cathedral.
Its foundation stone was laid in 1907 in the presence of President Theodore Roosevelt, but the Cathedral's beginnings date back to 1893. Built of Indiana limestone and shaped like a cross, it was finally completed in 1990 in the presence of President George H.W. Bush, making it the sixth largest in the world. The Cathedral welcomes visitors of all faiths to find peace and inspiration while experiencing its extraordinary art and architecture. Look for its interesting array of whimsy and wonder, from 112 gargoyles to 215 stained glass windows.
After our visit, we will depart for home. A dinner stop will be at your expense along the way.
