A Very Virginia Christmas

DAY 1

Following a short coffee stop enroute, you begin your festive journey with admission included at George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate. The estate is beautifully decorated for the season, and you will have a chance to tour the mansion and the grounds. (Please wear comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. You will have to walk outside to the mansion for the tour and to stroll the grounds). Discover the history of holiday traditions from the 18th century, learning about the food and celebrations of the Washington family, enslaved people, and hired workers. You can enjoy unique holiday shopping in the gift shops and lunch at your own expense before departure to check-in at your host hotel for the night, the Drury Plaza Hotel Richmond (804-354-1542). Enjoy your delightful guest rooms featuring a microwave, mini refrigerator, hair dryer and complimentary Wi-Fi. Hotel amenities include an indoor/outdoor pool & whirlpool, well-equipped fitness center, 24-hour business center and onsite cocktail lounge. After a brief time to freshen up, you depart for dinner at a local restaurant. Afterwards, you meet your local guide for admission included at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden "Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights". Stroll through the dazzling display of more than 500,000 lights arranged in whimsical botanical themes. Enjoy an evening of enchantment as you stroll through the gardens delightfully decorated with dazzling displays and whimsical botanical themes, as well as more than a million twinkling lights illuminating the night sky. (Please wear comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather as this is primarily an outdoor event). Your night concludes with a driving tour of Richmond's uniquely famous "Tacky Lights" display. It is a fun and festive local tradition where residents go all out with their holiday decorations to create a truly unforgettable experience. After your visit, you return to the hotel to turn in for the night.

DAY 2

Wake to breakfast included at the hotel before you pack up and depart for Maymont Mansion to explore this beautifully preserved 33-room estate built in the 1890's by James & Sallie Dooley. This opulent home offers a glimpse into the Gilded Age of luxury with original furnishings, ornate design and fascinating stories of life in turn-of-the-century Richmond. During the holiday season, Maymont boasts Victorian-era Christmas décor and festive ambiance. Next, you depart for the Historic Jefferson Hotel for a self-guided visit and elegant Holiday High Tea featuring a selection of finger sandwiches, scones, assorted pastries and, of course, tea. The hotel will be adorned with hundreds of live poinsettias, thousands of twinkling lights, and the breathtaking 30-foot Christmas tree in the Rotunda. Signature displays will be created on the Grand Staircase along with more than 20 smaller trees placed throughout the hotel. Afterwards, you board the motorcoach and travel to Virginia Beach for a drive-through holiday lights display on the boardwalk. Experience a dazzling spectacle taking you on a radiant journey through nautical, holiday, and adventure realms along the picturesque boardwalk in the comforts of the motorcoach. You then arrive at the Founders Inn & Spa (757-424-5511) to check in for a two-night stay. Guest rooms feature a mini refrigerator, coffeemaker, hairdryer and complimentary Wi-Fi access. The hotel offers an indoor pool, fitness room, and onsite restaurant. Enjoy dinner included at the hotel while your bags are being delivered to your room. The remainder of the night is yours to enjoy the beautiful English gardens illuminated by over 100,000 classic white lights creating a radiant and charming setting for the holidays or relax and unwind in the comforts of your room after a joyfully, busy day of touring.

DAY 3

Begin you day with breakfast included at the hotel before you board the Spirit of Norfolk for one-of-a-kind event on the Elizabeth River including holiday trivia games and line dancing along with a delicious lunch, DJ entertainment and amazing views from every window. Following the cruise, enjoy a guided tour of the Military Aviation Museum which is home to one of the world's largest collections of flying vintage military aircraft. The purpose-built airport facility includes over 50 aircraft from the WWI and WWII era, and the museum contains historical structures located on 130 acres. Hear stories of contributions made by our men and women of aviation to our country. During your visit, the sounds of music featuring holiday favorites sung by a Frank Sinatra tribute singer fill the hangar. Your naval experience is not over yet, your day concludes with the Winterfest on the Wisconsin Battleship. Step inside the battleship and explore its historic decks decorated for the holidays. Indulge in holiday bites, festive treats and an exciting outdoor bar with delicious holiday beverages for purchase. Before you leave, shop the holiday market perhaps for a special gift or item to commemorate your Virginia Christmas. Dinner is on your own and at your expense in Norfolk before your return to your hotel for the night.

DAY 4

Enjoy breakfast included this morning before you bid a fond farewell to Virginia Beach and depart for the National Harbor for some time to grab lunch at your own expense and time to explore the waterfront. This afternoon, admission is included to ICE! At the Gaylord National. Step into a magical, winter wonderland made up of two million pounds of colorful ice carved by expert artisans in this exclusively Gaylord experience. Wander through frozen tunnels, marvel at vibrant light shows in their festively decorated atrium and feel like a kid again as you zoom down real frozen ice slides inside the experience. (Special Note: All guests are provided with a blue parka to keep them warm in our nine-degree ICE! tent. Coats are available in all sizes, including children and infants. Hats and gloves are recommended. Guests may also choose to wear their own coats, but a Blue Parka is required in order to go down the slides in ICE!). Dinner at your own expense tonight as you make your way home after what we hope has been a memorable, heartwarming holiday getaway.
