DAY 1

Today, Wolf's takes you to Maryland's Eastern Shore to discover the heroism and bravery of Harriett Tubman as she risked her life to rescue the enslaved and give them the taste of freedom. Following a quick rest stop enroute, you arrive in Cambridge, MD to pick-up your local guide who will provide interesting and educational narration about the area and the life of Harriett Tubman. Your first stop is for lunch included at Old Salty's Restaurant featuring some Eastern Shore favorites. Following lunch, you board the motorcoach and travel to the visit the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park & Visitor Center. The Tubman Visitor Center features 10,000 square feet of engaging and enlightening exhibits that feature information about her childhood and young adulthood, living and laboring under slavery in Dorchester County, Maryland. The center immerses visitors in the secret networks of the Underground Railroad and Tubman's own daring rescue missions. In addition to the exhibits, there is a theatre where you can hear stories of Harriet Tubman's life and work. Next, you depart for a drive-through the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. During your drive-through experience, your guide will provide narrative about the wildlife seen and unseen, the flora and fauna, as well as its tie to Harriett Tubman. She was born near the refuge and likely worked on lands that are now a part of the refuge. After escaping slavery in 1849, she returned on several occasions and guided over 70 enslaved people to freedom using the skills and knowledge she acquired from working in the marshes and waterways. The refuge has been referred to as the "Everglades of the North," and has been called one of the "Last Great Places" by the Nature Conservancy. At the conclusion of your tour, you will return the guide back to Cambridge and during that time you will ride past and learn about landmarks in the Bucktown area, where Harriett Tubman lived and worked as a child including the Brodess Farm and the Bucktown Village Store. You then begin your travels back to central PA with a fast-food stop for dinner at your expense.
