DAY 1

Mother Nature provides a beautiful backdrop of warm autumn colors for this trip to the scenic Laurel Highlands in southwest PA for guided tours of two homes designed by renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. Following a short stop enroute, you arrive in Mill Run, PA for a guided tour of Fallingwater. Designed in 1935, Fallingwater is one of Wright's most widely acclaimed works that exemplifies his philosophy of organic architecture, the harmonious union of art and nature. The house was designed to rise above the waterfall over which it is built and is constructed of quarried native sandstone and other materials from the property. Witness the breathtaking surroundings as the warm autumn colors paint the area. (Please Note: Please wear comfortable shoes because there is a walk along uneven ground to the home. A small shuttle is provided for those who have mobility issues.) Following the tour, a boxed lunch is included before you depart for your next tour in Dunbar, PA at Kentuck Knob. Wright was 86 years old when he took on the job of designing Kentuck Knob, and it was one of the last homes he ever designed. The structure stands just below the crest of a hill and almost appears to be part of the mountain itself, which incorporates Wright's principle of organic architecture blending naturally with its surroundings. The home is constructed of native sandstone and red cypress from North Carolina. Just beyond the back terrace stretches a breathtaking panorama of the Youghiogheny River Gorge and the beautiful Laurel Highlands. Following your guided tour, you depart for home with a meal stop at your expense along the way, and the memories of the tranquil beauty of the Laurel Highlands and glorious works of Frank Lloyd Wright are etched in your mind.
