VA International Military Tattoo Festival 2017

VA International Military Tattoo Festival 2017

This three-day tour titled Virginia Military Tattoo has much to do about Military music, majestic massed pipes and drums, show stopping drill team maneuvers and colorful and elegant dancers; Norfolk Naval Base, and the National Museum of the Marine Corps. But NOTHING to do with ink tattoos on skin or needles. The term tattoo comes from a Dutch statement by innkeepers - "doe den tattoo!" which translates to "Turn off the taps!" which sent soldiers back to their barracks for an evening ceremony

Day 2

Begin your day with breakfast included at the hotel this morning prior to departure by coach to the Norfolk Naval Base. The 45-minute tour is conducted by Naval personnel. You will have the opportunity to see aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, amphibious assault ships and one of the busiest airfields in the country. The tour will also feature historic homes from the 1907 Jamestown Exposition. Your afternoon is free back at the hotel to get lunch on your own and explore the MacArthur Center, located just across the street from your hotel. The Center is a unique dining and shopping experience with over 140 stores and everything from fine-dining restaurants to casual sit-down restaurants to quick eats in the Food Court. If you visit MacArthur Center, be sure to find the Bugling Cherub, the Blue Herons and the Canada Geese. You also have the option of visiting other downtown sites such as MacArthur Memorial Museum, dedicated to preserving and presenting the story of the life of Army General Douglas MacArthur; Nauticus National Maritime Center & USS Wisconsin Battleship, which is a maritime themed science center on the waterfront in downtown Norfolk; and the Wisconsin, one of the largest battleships built from 1941-1943 at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. The USS Wisconsin played a major role in WWII, earning five battle stars for service against Japanese forces. Take a stroll to the Waterside District and see the improvements and renovations taking place at the waterfront and check out the Propeller at Town Point Park, which is 20 feet in diameter and weighs 17,330 pounds. Late this afternoon it is off to Scope Center for the Tattoo Hullaballoo; this pre-show event is where the performers come out and do mini-performances and photo-ops; bring your cameras. There is also a beer garden and various food vendors located here. The group will have reserved seating with a boxed dinner prior to heading into Scope Building for the evening show. The Virginia International Tattoo has new performances each year. In 2017 there will be an extraordinary 1,000 person cast from 8 nations including favorites such as the Band of His Majesty the Kings' Guard from Norway and the United States Marine Corps Band Quantico. Enjoy this patriotic show that will be sure to leave you amazed. Return to the hotel following the show for overnight.

Day 3

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, board your Wolf's coach to begin your journey back to Pennsylvania. En route a special stop will be made at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, which is located just adjacent to Quantico Marine Corps Base. The central portion of the Museum, known as Leatherneck Gallery, is the area designed to learn what it means to be a United States Marine. Following your visit, board the coach and continue back to Pennsylvania. Rest and meal stops en route as needed.
